In Pre-Prep, Science is introduced indirectly through activities which encourage the children to explore, predict, problem solve, think and talk about the world around them.

This forms part of the learning children acquire through the ‘Knowledge and Understanding of the World’ area of the curriculum.  Our nurturing environment and child-centred approach taps into the children’s curiosity and develops the desire to explore and experiment.

As they progress through Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, our children receive a broad and balanced Science curriculum which develops the skills needed to plan and carry out the five types of scientific enquiry. Over time, this strengthens the attributes that they need to be successful scientists who are able to answer questions using the scientific enquiry process. Our Year 5 and 6 pupils are taught by Science specialists from our Senior School in our Science laboratories, allowing access to specialist equipment and bespoke learning experiences.

We aim to develop the natural curiosity of our children, encourage the confidence to question a process or theory and develop a strong respect for living organisms and the environment which is further enhanced through regular Forest School sessions.
