We are proud to share that we’ve enjoyed a vibrant week-long celebration of Pride, starting from 24th June 2024. The event was designed to honour and support the LGBTQ+ community, featuring an array of activities including guest speakers, quizzes, a silent disco, and a cake and bake sale. The celebrations aimed to foster inclusivity and raise funds for the charity Just Like Us, which supports LGBTQ+ youth.

The Pride Week celebrations were generously supported by local businesses, Fletchers Solicitors and Park Cakes, whose contributions will help ensure a successful and memorable selection of events for all participants.

Key events during the week included:

  • Guest Speakers: Engaging talks from LGBTQ+ advocates, sharing their experiences and insights into equality and diversity in the workplace
  • Quizzes: Fun and educational quizzes that promote awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ history and culture
  • Silent Disco: A lively silent disco where students can enjoy music and dance in a unique, inclusive environment. Hulme Grammar reached out to staff, students, and LGBTQ+ celebrities and influencers asking for their playlist requests, ensuring a diverse and exciting mix of music
  • Cake and Bake Sale: A delicious bake sale with all proceeds going to Just Like Us, fostering a sense of community and charity.

Hulme Grammar School’s Pride celebrations are organised by PRISM, the school’s co-curricular group dedicated to providing a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ+ students. PRISM is committed to promoting education, sharing experiences, and breaking down barriers within the school community.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Pride at Hulme Grammar School,” said the Principal, Tony Oulton. “Our Pride Week events are a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community. We are proud to stand with our students and staff, celebrating diversity and raising funds for Just Like Us.”

Just Like Us is a charity focused on empowering LGBTQ+ young people to champion equality and inclusion within schools and communities. The funds raised during Pride Week will support their vital work in creating a more inclusive society.

“We are grateful to Fletchers Solicitors and Park Cakes for their support in making our Pride Week a success,” added Mr Oulton. “Their partnership underscores the importance of community support in fostering an inclusive environment.”
