The International GCSE in English Literature qualification is designed to engage pupils in a diverse range of dynamic texts which builds on our work at KS3. Pupils study a range of drama, prose, poetry and non-fiction texts and take two examinations at the end of the course. Pupils develop skills in critical and creative thinking, as well as in academic writing.

Paper 1: Poetry and Modern Prose
What’s assessed?
Section A: Unseen Poetry (13%) 20 marks
- One essay question exploring the meaning and effects created in an unseen poem. The poem will be reproduced in the question paper
Section B: Anthology Poetry (20%) 30 marks
- One essay question from a choice of two, comparing two poems from Part 3 of the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE English Anthology. Open book.
Section C: Modern Prose (27%) 40 marks
- One essay question from a choice of two on the set text, Of Mice & Men. Closed book.
Paper 2: Modern Drama and Literary Heritage Texts
What’s assessed?
Section A: 30 marks (20%)
- Modern Drama: one 30-mark essay question from a choice of two on An Inspector Calls. This section assesses AO1and AO2
Section B: 30 marks (20%)
- Literary Heritage: one 30-mark essay question from a choice of two on Macbeth. This section assesses AO1, AO2 and AO4.
