At Hulme Grammar School, our vision statement is β€˜To offer a vibrant, inclusive education that nurtures young people as individuals, empowering them to realise their potential.’ What does that mean to us? It means we want to create an environment that is full of energy, life, and colour, where the spark of curiosity is ignited in each student. In this community of learners, all are welcome, none are excluded, and we are dedicated to supporting each student in every way possible. By encouraging students to question and explore, we empower them to become lifelong learners with a thirst for knowledge that serves them well in school and beyond it. The task before us is to give students the tools they need to find their paths to successful adulthood and emerge as people of character and moral strength who never lose their imagination or their interest in learning. Numbered among our alumni are successful doctors, scientists, performers, athletes, military officers, journalists, fashion designers, and more, leaders in their respective fields. We like to believe that Hulme gave each of them, all with unique talents and interests, the foundation they needed to pursue their passions and live out their dreams.

Hulme Grammar Core Values

At Hulme, we strive to instil in our students our core values of big heartedness, respect, and determination, helping them grow into grounded, hard-working, well-rounded individuals. We believe that character is not set in stone, but can be developed. That is why we work hard to develop values like leadership, collaboration, resilience, and empathy in our students. Because we understand that our students are children, their wellbeing and happiness is a priority for us, just as it is for their parents. Providing an environment where children can flourish is a responsibility we take seriously, and our pastoral care team works closely with parents to facilitate this. Our aim is to nurture each pupil as an individual, teaching them respect by listening to them and teaching them to be true to themselves. We help them build the skills they need to face the challenges of life, in an inclusive community where they are valued and celebrated. The children in our school, never far from caring advice and support, grow into people of resilience and fortitude. Through our strong co-curricular provision, we provide students with access to clubs, societies, and volunteer opportunities, where they can broaden their horizons and develop their skills. By helping our students develop the values necessary for a successful life, we prepare them to take the world by storm.

Hulme Grammar School Ethos

Our ethos, the spirit of our school, is something you feel the moment you enter Hulme Grammar School. It is big-hearted and welcoming, respectful and grounded, hard working and determined. Our school is a community made up of people all striving towards the same spirit, working to promote the same sense of values. It is our aim to be kind, considerate and caring. At Hulme Grammar, inclusivity is more than just a buzzword, it is a way of life. Throughout our long history, HGS has been an inclusive place. During World War II, when evacuees from Guernsey arrived and needed a school, we welcomed them so openly that they remained with us for five years! We include everyone, listening with respect and encouraging everyone involved with our school to be true to themselves. We appreciate all members of our community for who they are, and because we care deeply about our students, we protect and care for them as they grow into the people they are meant to be. As a result, our students are hard workers who strive to excel, go above and beyond, and never give up.
