During the visit, pupils were challenged to develop their own business ideas and enterprises, using the trading platform to create commercial accounts and simulate real-world trading with each other. The imaginative range of businesses included ventures in fin-tech, aviation, and pharmaceuticals.
Stephen Norbury, Head of Computer Science at Hulme Grammar, praised the experience:
“This was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to test their entrepreneurship in a safe space, while applying the skills they’ve learnt in the classroom to a real-world scenario. Experiences like this bring computing and business education to life and could well be the foundation for the next generation of business leaders.”
The Oldham Trading Platform is designed to enable businesses within the locality to connect, trade, collaborate and innovate through a unified digital space. This fosters an environment where the pound stays local, fuelling economic resilience and community growth.
Nuraz Zamal, Founder of iMS Technologies, said:
“It was a great pleasure to host pupils from Hulme and to begin our partnership with such an inspiring school. Hulme has a reputation for producing well-rounded and talented young people, and this initiative is a great way to spark ambition and innovation in the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”
This partnership marks the beginning of a broader collaboration between Hulme Grammar School and the local business community, offering pupils unique insights into the digital economy and practical experience in entrepreneurship.
