On the 1st of October, Hulme Grammar School opened its doors to an exciting Careers Fair, designed to give young people across the borough a taste of various career paths and industries. The event was a resounding success, with over 25 local and national employers, universities, and training providers offering valuable insights and guidance to students from Year 10 to Year 13.

The Careers Fair attracted organisations from a wide range of sectors, including tech, engineering, law, finance, and the creative industries. Notable attendees included Greater Manchester Police, The University of Manchester, The Palace Theatre, RPG, and AECOM, among others. Students had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations, ask questions, and gather information on career opportunities, apprenticeships, and university pathways.

Katie Flett, Head of Futures at Hulme Grammar, emphasised the importance of the fair, saying, “We are committed to providing our students with the best possible resources and support as they make important decisions about their futures. The Careers Fair is a fantastic opportunity for them to explore a range of career options and interact with professionals who can offer real-world advice.”

Students also participated in a series of classroom talks, to hear from professionals what their role entails and how they built their career path. These sessions were designed to prepare them for the competitive job market and ensure they are equipped with the tools they need to succeed.

Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. One Year 11 student said, ‘The speaker that stood out to me most was the construction woman who was telling us about her school life (as a Hulme Alumni). She told us all the interesting brands she has worked with and the other jobs there are within the construction career. She answered all our questions enthusiastically and definitely made me consider going down that career path.’

The Careers Fair is part of Hulme Grammar’s ongoing commitment to career readiness and raising aspirations, ensuring students are well-prepared to navigate their futures with confidence. As a school that values its role in the wider community, Hulme is dedicated to offering these opportunities not only to its own students but also to young people from local schools, supporting the public benefit by fostering ambition and broadening horizons. Hulme looks forward to continuing its collaboration with leading employers and universities to provide these invaluable experiences to students in the years to come.
